[SUBMISSIONS] MycenaDeck - Character Deck

The Famine depicts a well-weathered ineki with dark coat and a somber expression upon his face. His pale blue eyes are half lidded and staring towards the viewer, with a mournful gaze that seems to look through you rather than at you. Tattered ears stick out of a tangle of wispy, dark hair that floats about the ineki, with the dark strands fading to nothing at the ends. A crown of wilted and torn flowers sits atop his head, the blue color of their petals faded and washed out. Similar individual flowers and petals float about him, their corners as transparent as the faded ends of his hair.

Drawn Upright
The Famine represents an important loss in one’s life and the associated distress and suffering of being without it. It also represents the longing and incessant craving of wanting, needing, whatever it is back. When drawn upright, this could be interpreted as the loss of a specific possession, hobby, or even relationship. The Famine has been stripped of everything that they believed was important in their life, as well as the minuscule things that they often didn’t think twice about and only notice now that they’re gone. The item that’s lost has a wide range of possibilities and importance, but regardless of what it is the loss will usually directly impact your daily life in some fashion. The loss is usually always sudden and unexpected, and leaves the person feeling as though their entire world has been tampered with.

Drawn Reversed
When drawn in reversal, the Famine stands for self-sacrifice. It represents the willingness of giving up a favored possession or hobby in order to put the best interest of another first. A reversed Famine goes against the sometimes selfish behavior that they are known for. It comes with the realization that loss, even though often painful, can sometimes be necessary. This can also sometimes be seen as a sign to sever ties with bad relationships or to give up harmful hobbies - despite how difficult it might be to do so.

The Divine depicts a young woman adorned in a white dress, golden jewelry, long yellow sleeves, a yellow sash around her waist, and a golden circlet in the shape of leaves with three white diamonds in the centerpieces. Her brown wavy hair is up in a high ponytail and behind her are her white wings spread out against the vastness of space. Millions of stars each varying in shape and size attempt to fill in the empty feeling the universe is giving off. Below her right hand is a yellow glowing star which looks almost as if she is conjuring it into existence.

Drawn Upright

This card brings a sense of peace and hope. It is a reminder that no matter how bad life seems or how lonely one might be, there is always a shining star to guide one to a peaceful new beginning. It is okay to look to the past, but never dwell. Focus on the present and think about the future no matter how limited it may be. Pretty soon one will realize they’re not the only star in the galaxy.

Drawn Reversed

If this card is drawn in reversed it gives off the feeling of betrayal. Everything looks as if it is falling from the sky. The stars look more distant and the once smiling face that seemed peaceful almost seems taunting. If not for her hands being visible it could have easily been assumed a weapon was hiding behind her back. Everything feels off and nothing seems to make sense. It is hard to shake off this feeling of not being able to be the person you want to be or be able to trust anyone.

The Sacrifice depicts Vishnu, a child that gave his life to give peace to both himself and his people. The Sacrifice is in many ways similar to The Death and The Hanged Man cards in how they effects those around them. Unfortunately, this card seldom signifies a happy ending while also requiring you to shoulder the majority of the burden.

Drawn Upright
When drawn upright, The Sacrifice is telling you to submit in your conflict. In this conflict, you will be in a position to make the final choice and close this part of your life on your own terms. While the outcome may not necessarily be good, there is no need for you or those involved to continue to suffer. Everyone’s thoughts are already on the table and the outcome will be the same whether the conflict drags on or ends tomorrow.
When drawn upright in a future position, The Sacrifice is calling for your input. An inevitable conflict is brewing and you have the power to guide it to a desirable outcome should the choices you make be selfless.

Drawn Reversed
When drawn reversed, The Sacrifice is telling you that your situation will end with or without your input and potentially not in your favor.
When reversed in a past position, this card means you have already done your part in the conflict and to reflect on the choices you made then.
When reversed in a present or future position, you must stay either neutral or remain out of a conflict that is either happening or will happen. The reversed Sacrifice signifies that even though no choices directly influencing the conflict have been made, circumstance is already pushing the situation out of your favor and you should not try to fight it.

Pardon the slightly illegible text, no text color shows up as well as I’d like. Text reads: ‘When drawn upside down, -5 persuasion for looking young and helpless. When drawn upright, +10 Persuasion/Charisma for being an incredibly sneaky, manipulative little bastard.’

UPRIGHT
mysticism, the arcane, wisdom, order, vision

REVERSED
chaos, blindness, spells broken, recklessness

The Feathered Serpent is a card of great power, but also great danger. Upright, it indicates a correct decision made, or a plan about to fall into place. If paired with The Hyena, it can also warn that powerful magic will soon make its way into your life, for good or for ill. Reversed, however, the Feathered Serpent means you are about to find yourself running toward a cliff—uncertainty and chaos reign on the serpent reversed. Treat this card with caution and respect, or you will be dealing with more than you bargained for.

Character Art by joelwokritzelt on tumblr~ Profile links for Móinn and Hrímnir.

Character Strengths and Weaknesses: As is immediately clear from the card, one of the strengths of Móinn and Hrímnir is their strong partnership. That is part of the reason I decided to list them together! It is really difficult for me to write one without the other. At the same time, this is also something of a weakness. Móinn can be a bit of a jealous hoarder, and one of his treasures is Hrímnir. He can act rashly if he believes that someone is after him.

Both of the characters are low-ranking for their race, which is why I decided to give them a lower constitution. Móinn, the reptile, was born as the runt of a litter of lindworms. Hrímnir, the frost giant, is a cautious thief that lacks much of the ferocity his species is known for.  When compared to others of their kind they would not be below average. Móinn is lucky to have carved out a scrap of territory in a swamp that is not much sought after by stronger lindworms. Sometimes he still has to chase off young lindworms and intruders that wander through, though. His jealous guarding, as witnessed by their special ability, helps balance out his weakness, too. He relies on careful observation in order to keep his hoard and his territory safe. It is very rare he lets his guard down.

One of their greatest strengths is charisma, but that is mostly because of Móinn. He has plenty of vim and vigor, and if Hrímnir did not balance him out he might be a full 20. For those who get to see his personality, they will find him to be vibrant and outgoing. His dogged determination comes in handy when he is trying to convince someone or something or when he is on one of constant patrols through bogs and branches.

Both have great reflexes, both from climbing the large trees in their territory and from running away after theft. They can be incredibly hard to catch when they want to wriggle their way out of a scrape, which works in their favor considering their weaker constitution.

Card Effect: Insight; all opponents must reveal their hands to the player of this card. However, what is done with that information is at the discretion of the player. Information, true or false, may be passed to as many (or as few) people as the player wishes individually.

ALIS VOLAT PROPIIS is my newest custom! I’m calling her Alis partially out of tongue in cheek tbh, but I did manage to misspell VOLAT in the card because I’m more used to the modern term than the latin one. <w<; Whoooops.

This card is a complicated card in its effect and more so in its execution. Will you choose to sow discord? Will you choose to help? Will you choose to hinder? The information revealed might dictate your strategy as well. Think quick, think thoroughly, and make the decisions that’ll help you win! In a game of wits, this card is invaluable. In a duel, this card is basically useless.

This is a pretty accurate reflection of this character. She’s born from a branch family to royalty. However, her branch lacks the support that would give them power. Thus, she’s born into the role of a bartering piece. She doesn’t like it and does everything she possibly can to change her fate. The manipulation of chance pieces of information, how that information is then distributed to others, and how she influences the choices of others was, for a very long time, her only means of affecting the events of her life. She’s ambitious, determined, and fighting a battle she knows she will lose. However, she wants to at least have a say in the type of situation she’ll end up in. Thus, the ability of this card is partially based on chance but mostly based on the wits of the player. How will you play your hand?

The Chaotic Creation Goddess can be an unsettling card to draw as she always indicates a period of chaos approaching.

When drawn upright the Chaotic Creation Goddess indicates that while things may be chaotic and upsetting now, it will all work out in a manner that allows good things to happen later. Things that wouldn’t have been possible without the current chaos. Like the river flooding and leaving behind nutrient-rich soil as it recedes. Perhaps the benefits may not seem to be worth the hardships, but perhaps they may far outweigh them. It’s impossible to tell until long after the chaos has passed.

However when drawn upside down the meaning reverses, indicating that while things may not seem so bad now you need to get the situation in hand, and soon. While what is going on may seem helpful now it will soon turn around and snowball into a disaster beyond anything you could expect. A nice rainy spring bringing swarms of mosquitoes carrying diseases through the summer.

I’m tentatively entitling the game this card is for “Domains”. You play as an Inbetweener, a kind of interdimensional deity, whose job it is to keep certain parts of the multiverse in balance. Each of them has different responsibilities - their domain. The goal of the game is not just to protect and further your own domain though - it is a collaborative game. You have to cooperate to keep all the domains safe and sound, or face the consequences as a group.

You do this by combating Threats, and if the Inbetweener you’re repping isn’t the one in charge of solving that particular threat, to support the one doing so.

While the Inbetweeners’ job never really ends, the game, as is its nature, does. The Victory condition is to successfully quell a predetermined number of threats without letting consequences of uncombated ones impede gameplay to the point that no legal move can be made.

The card shown here would be fairly rare in the deck - you could ostensibly be playing as Nishant, so his appearance on the playing field would have to be for a momentous occasion. I reckon that aside from his card, it is relatively hard to retrieve lost assets, if not impossible.

I’d like to note than when it says “your choice”, it means a choice all players should ideally come to consensus too for their own best interest.

((Photo is taken by me, of a BJD I have of him. His faceup was done by mechabre on tumblr.))

Khaoz

Void: Only playable if the “Roxxy” card is in the user’s deck. This card voids the enemy player’s turn until the user draws the “Roxxy” card. Until then, this card destroys one random card at play (can be either the user’s or the enemy player’s). If not card is at play on the side of the field Khaoz is to attack on, he attacks that field’s player instead and the battle ends immediately. This card will only activate once both players have five cards each on their sides of the field, and after this card is placed on the field. The side of the field on which Khaoz attacks is decided by a coin flip, after which the player of that side is allowed to decide which card they can discard.

Ninianne

True to his character, Ninianne’s card is a tricky one. It provides a choice - continue to draw out the game but force your opponent to skip every other turn, or play more aggressively and put Lucian into play, which activates her additional effect and makes her unable to be damaged. Though Ninianne can be damaged and removed after this, Lucian cannot and you have a mostly-permanent body on board.

Ninianne is a tricky creature. He enjoys to play with others, and can be cruel in the same way a child might be. What’s fun to him - like throwing travelers into his corner of a magical forest and watching them try to escape - may be harmful to the victim. At the same time, he isn’t actively malicious. Manage to capture his attention or pique his curiosity, and it’s possible to get boons or blessings from him. He is vain - he knows that he is beautiful and powerful, and isn’t afraid to use his gifts or flaunt them - and he is selfish in that he only really cares for his family. The happiness and safety of his twin sister, Lucian, and his little butterfly-dragon companion, Llyn, are the most important things to him. Of course, he loves his parents as well, but that’s a little more complicated.

Just as Ninianne can be cruel but tricky, this card can quickly turn the tide of the match in your favor. And just as Lucian and Ninianne amplify each others’ mischief, this card can bring them both together and make them a pain to deal with.

(Click card to go to Tropie’s profile :3)

Describe in more detail some of the strengths and weaknesses revealed about your character through your character’s card.

Positive attributes:

As a mage, Tropie’s talents lie in aspects of fire, heat, and light. But though a mage, she’s quite adept in melee fighting as well, particularly with a sword, or other longish, improvised weapons, such as a steel pipe. Basically anything she can combine her talents with—heating up metal, or reflecting a blinding light off of it, for example—is an ideal fit.

Tropie is an excellent cook (which is good, because her best friend and long-time partner in magic, Howl, can practically burn a pot of plain water. xD) Whether in the kitchen or over the campfire, she can make a decent meal out of just about anything food-like available.

Her intuitive sense is natural and strong—she can intuit the fuller story behind something off of limited information, is great at “reading a room”, and at detecting the emotional states of others (often even when they’re trying to hide it). An odd mix of brash and sensitive, she’s good at knowing which approach to best use, when—except on occasion when impulsiveness takes over.

Tropie falls willingly and easily into the roles of mom or big sister. She loves to laugh and have fun, and between that, her intuitive nature, and her impulses to protect and comfort those younger or in a weaker state, children and child-like Mycenians react to her very well.

Null attributes:

While she can be nosy to a fault, especially with those close to her—always wanting to know what’s really going on with them, and how they feel—her strong discretion with that knowledge cancels out much of the negative aspects that might imply.

Negative attributes:

While it isn’t always a negative factor, Tropie’s impulsiveness in words or deeds does sometimes get the better of her, leading her to say or do things she later regrets. Thinking these moments through before acting on them is still something she’s trying to work on, with no little chagrin.

One form of play Tropie has long enjoyed is gambling. While the type of bets she makes has mellowed over time, and she no longer spends her time seriously gambling as she did prior to helping raise her family, the gambling spark is still there—and can come out in sometimes silly ways.

Game Description:
You are a Mycenian with a lot to offer, but you’re very shy! You’ve written a geness (or Kinnen) proposal to another Mycenian you admire greatly. However, there’s a cave full of pitfalls, traps, and other Mycenians standing between you and your intended. Hand your letter off through the ranks but don’t be caught by a Cave In. With a bit of quick-thinking and a fair bit of luck, your proposal will be the first one to reach the one you adore!

1. Check the deck, separate out the four cards marked with an 8. Select one of the these cards to be the Intended. Select another to be the Rival, and add it to the deck. Return the others to the box.

You should now have a deck of 16 cards:
5 Echolocation cards (rank 1)
2 Peek cards (rank 2)
2 Protective Paladin cards (rank 3)
2 Healer cards (rank 4)
1 Sabotage card (rank 5)
1 The Ol’ Switcheroo Card (rank 6)
1 Too Greedy card (rank 7)
1 Rival card (rank 8)

2. The last person to write a letter goes first.

3. Shuffle the cards. Deal one, face down, off to the side, and then deal one card to each player.

4. Each turn, the player whose turn it is will draw a card and then play a card, using its effect. Cards have different rankings (in the mushroom on the top left), and different effects (the text at the bottom).

5. The round is over when:
a. All but one player is eliminated - that player is the winner of the round. OR;
b. The deck runs out - all remaining players reveal their cards and the player with the highest card rank is the winner.

6. The winning player collects a gem from the box, and a new round begins

7. When the first player collects 5 gems, the game ends and that player is declared the winner.

This game is essentially a reskin of the game Love Letter

Once I had the template, it was easy to complete the rest of the game. Enjoy! :D

Art by Kay Mentrae [#1043]

Headlong Charge
This ‘ability’ is essentially Kegan’s main attack style. Unless held back by someone else he invariably rushes head-long at any enemy he spots in his party’s path, rarely taking time to consider the opponent’s strength, size, or numbers. This ‘strategy’ has often granted him the element of surprise in battling and can, in the right circumstances, prove devastatingly effective. In the right conditions Kegan can wipe out the majority of a mob before it has time to rally against him, and with the proper support he usually has no difficulty in clearing even the most challenging of foes. However, against larger numbers, in prolonged battles, or just under ‘*unlucky circumstances’, this same tactic quickly backfires, landing him in a world of trouble. He’s often overwhelmed under these conditions, leading to his health taking a sharp dip, or, just as frequently, him suffering yet another in-game death.

*AKA: Any time Glass isn’t there to save his ass / point out how dumb he’s being.

Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution
Kegan naturally gravitated to the Strength stat when he was building his avatar, and as a result he overloaded it right from the outset. At first it spoke to him mainly because it reflected his role in the real world—he was raised to be the muscle, and that required a certain strength and resilience—but as he grew more invested in Aeternia he also began to put more thought into his build. A greater understanding of what the stats actually meant caused him to shuffle his original allocation (thankfully before he’d earnt all his points and was ‘locked in’), and the result was a boost of Constitution and Dexterity – two stats he’d originally ignored. His focus on this stat-triad came shortly after he stumbled into the role of Tank, and though he typically insists that his focus on them is all about making him the ‘strongest’, the reality is that he simply wants to make absolutely certain that he’s capable of protecting his party from harm.

Resilience
During his early days in Aeternia this stat was as overloaded as Kegan’s Strength, for he assumed that it referred to one’s ability to ‘take hits’. It was only after he’d been playing for some months that he realised it was all about magical defence – but thankfully he’d taken his first steps as a Tank not too long before. This was fortunate, for before his Tank days he would almost certainly have left the stat at the wayside, but instead he kept it at a reasonable level to ensure a certain resistance to spells. After all, what good is a Tank that collapses at the first hint of magic?

Wisdom and Agility
Kegan never paid much attention to either of these stats, and as such they’ve never been raised much beyond their bases. Agility he saw a certain use for relatively early on, for all the strength in the world is no good if you can’t land your hits, but for the most part he relies on brute strength to win fights and his armour to protect his own hide—just as he does offline. Wisdom, meanwhile, is something he’s ignored entirely (baring a few points thrown in to keep a certain guild-leader happy), and this is somewhat poetic given his apparent inability to stop and think. That is not to say that he thinks Aeternia’s form of wisdom unimportant—it’s simply not for him—but people do sometimes joke that putting a few more points into this stat might have raised his own intelligence…
