Stickers are Mycena Cave’s achievement system. They are awarded for participating in site activities and events and serve as a display of the player’s accomplishments on the site over time. Each player has their own sticker collection page, which is viewable from their profile, and the collection of stickers therein depends entirely on what events and activities that individual has participated in.
The different border colors surrounding each sticker indicates the type of activity that sticker was earned through. Right now, we have a total of 5 colors on display - but only have 4 active categories that stickers fall under:
- Blue - Creative Collective
- Pink - Major site events
- Green - Forum activities
- Yellow - Quests and challenges
As we develop the sticker system further, we may end up with more or less categories than those currently displayed. Categories are broad and meant to be flexible—for example, an activity with a similarly creative purpose as the Creative Collective may be included in the blue sticker category.
Right now, only the blue sticker category has a prize attached to them. For every three blue stickers earned, players are awarded a Bag of Wonders. The other categories do not currently have prizes attached to them, but this may be something that we implement in the future.
The sticker system is still a work in progress in that it will be refined and added to over time, but the main mechanics and focus as an achievement system will stay the same. This means that new categories may be added, new prizes may be added and made to be more varied/complex, and how a player’s stickers are displayed will likely get more complex over time, but we won’t make any major changes to the fundamental mechanics (e.g. we wouldn’t turn the stickers themselves into a spendable currency). In other words, the achievements system is currently a diamond in the rough being refined into something shinier rather than a diamond we are planning on turning into an emerald. We released it early both so that players could start collecting stickers sooner, and so that we could more easily incorporate player feedback as we flesh out the system.
