Covyll and Phirron

The Meeting

There had always been rumors about the cave near his hometown. Covyll had an ear for gossip, so he always heard the townsfolk whispering about strange noises they heard, livestock going missing, stores broken into overnight and stock stolen. Always on the nights when the moon was absent in the sky.

It wasn’t until he’d grown up and moved away that the urge to investigate the cave struck. He wasn’t sure why, but it was as if something was calling him back to his family home, calling him into the attic, into the locked chest covered in dust. Within was a weathered diary and a tome wrapped tightly in cloth.

His great grandmother’s diary, he soon discovered. In it, she admitted to having brought something forth from the unknown, and in a panic, she sealed it within the boundaries of the village. However, that meant it was unable to return back from whence it came, and its survival depended on pillaging from the townsfolk.

Armed with this knowledge, Covyll entered the cave, intending to confront the monster.

Instead, he found Phirron. They looked like a Mycenian in everything but their eyes.

Phirron was skittish and lacking in social skills. Covyll wasn’t too hot at calming down a frightened beast. One thing led to another, and Covyll found his wrist being chomped down on by a lashing-out Phirron.

Unknown to either of them was the fact that this bite would forever entwine the two together.

You see, the changes start subtle. A fever, rashes across the body. The back becomes unbearably itchy as the beginnings of wings force their way through the skin. Finally, the sclera of the eyes turn black, the irises glowing like fire in the night.

And those are just the physical changes. The beast and the bitee are bound together on a spiritual level, fates intertwined, two hearts beating as one. They are drawn together like the planets to the sun.
